Polish milk soup with drop noodles, or Zupa Mleczna z Kluskami in Polish, is a dish that holds a special place in the hearts and stomachs of many Polish people. This comforting soup has been enjoyed for generations and is often still served at preschools. It’s a reminder of the rich culinary traditions of the country.
The soup’s history can be traced back to the 18th century, a time when milk was a common ingredient in many Polish dishes. As dairy farming was prevalent in certain regions, milk was often used in soups as a way to create a nutritious and filling meal – sometimes with stale bread and sugar, sometimes with rice.
The addition of drop noodles to the soup is a more recent innovation, likely dating back to the early 20th century.
As a child, I remember eating this soup on cold winter days in preschool. The fluffy drop noodles floating in the milk were enough to fill the kids warm and full. It’s a reminder of my heritage and a symbol of the warmth and comfort of Polish culture.
